چکیده

1 Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Donum vitae (February 2, 1987), Introduction, 5. 2 Ibid., I, 1. The topic of embryonic stem cells is very much in the forefront of public interest. The moral stance on obtaining stem cells from embryos is clear: The Church has always taught that all human life from the very beginning must be respected and protected. If human embryos are killed to obtain a certain type of cell, such action is morally wrong, no matter what good might be derived from the action. The document Donum vitae, issued by the Church in 1987, states that “from the moment of conception, the life of every human being is to be respected in an absolute way ... God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning to its end: No one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being.” 1 “The human being is to be respected and treated as a person from the moment of conception and therefore from that same moment his rights as a person must be recognized, among which in the first place is the inviolable right of every innocent human being to life.” 2

Evaluation of Iranian Snake ‘Macrovipera lebetina’ Venom Cytotoxicity in Kidney Cell Line HEK-293

Background:Envenomation by Macrovipera lebetina (M. lebetina) is characterized by prominent local tissue damage, hemorrhage, abnormalities in the blood coagulation system, necrosis, and edema. However, the main cause of death after a bite by M. lebetina has been attributed to acute renal failure (ARF). It is unclear whether the venom components have a direct or indirect action in causing ARF. T...

Investigating Anticancer Effects of Silver Nanoparticles on Bladder Cancer 5637 Cells in Comparison to Human Embryonic Kidney Normal Cells (HEK-293)

Background & aim: Nanotechnology is a modern research field with broad applications in cancer management. Among the various metal nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been used in cancer therapy due to their promising anti-tumor properties. Despite the great advantages of AgNPs, their effects on normal cells have become a challenge. Besides, their anti-cancer effects have not previo...

Minimal HER1 and HER2 expressions in CHO and HEK-293 cells cause them appropriate negative cells for HERs-related studies

Background: Understanding of cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in cell/tumor growth and progression has led to molecular-targeted therapy. HER1 and HER2 are two main oncogenic components of HER-receptor family considered as targets for cancer research and therapy. Reliable results of HER- related research and targeted therapies dependent upon cell line with known HER expression status....

The Lcn2-engineered HEK-293 cells show senescence under stressful condition

Objective(s): Lipocalin2 (Lcn2) gene is highly expressed in response to various types of cellular stresses. The precise role of Lcn2 has not been fully understood yet. However, it plays a key role in controlling vital cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and metabolism. Recently it was shown that Lcn2 decreases senescence and increases proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC...

HEK-293 cells possess a carbachol- and thapsigargin-sensitive intracellular Ca2+ store that is responsive to stop-flow medium changes and insensitive to caffeine and ryanodine.

Because HEK-293 cells are widely used for the functional expression of channels, exchangers and transporters involved in Ca(2+) homoeostasis, the properties of intracellular Ca(2+) stores and the methods used for measuring intracellular Ca(2+) release in HEK-293 cells were evaluated. Ca(2+) imaging was used to show caffeine-, carbachol- and thapsigargin-induced Ca(2+) release in HEK-293 cells t...

Large T-antigen up-regulates Kv4.3 K⁺ channels through Sp1, and Kv4.3 K⁺ channels contribute to cell apoptosis and necrosis through activation of calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II.

Down-regulation of Kv4.3 K⁺ channels commonly occurs in multiple diseases, but the understanding of the regulation of Kv4.3 K⁺ channels and the role of Kv4.3 K⁺ channels in pathological conditions are limited. HEK (human embryonic kidney)-293T cells are derived from HEK-293 cells which are transformed by expression of the large T-antigen. In the present study, by comparing HEK-293 and HEK-293T ...
